Road Safety
Make sure you learn the Green Cross Code!
THINK!
Find a safe place to cross and stop. Make sure you are not behind or infront of a parked/stopped car or vehicle. You should be able to see the road clearly from both sides. NEVER cross just after a bend in the road or just before the top of a hill. Try to find a zebra crossing, pedestrian crossing, traffic lights or lollypop lady.

STOP!
Stand on the path not too near the kerb and wait. Look right then left and then right and left again.

Do not stand on the road to look for cars
USE YOUR EYES AND EARS!
Look all around you, especially look out for cyclists in the bike lanes. Then listen really carefully for traffic you may not be able to see yet. Look again!
WAIT!

If you can see traffic coming, do not try to beat it, wait until it has passed and repeat the stop, look and listen procedure that you have just learned. Remember, sometimes you can misjudge the speed of a vehicle coming towards you, if you are not sure DON'T attempt to cross. It isn't worth it.
WHEN CROSSING...
ALWAYS walk, NEVER run
Keep looking and listening for traffic
Try not to use a mobile phone, or MP3 player (mini disk, CD player etc) whilst crossing, it can distract your attention and stops you hearing any traffic coming towards you.
Be alert and arrive safe
